We understand how does it feel when you are suffering continuous leaking of oil under your vehicle.

If you would like to find ways to stop this type of problems in your cars powder coating valve cover may be an affordable solution.

Protective and Preventive Powder Coating Services

We know that valve covers are the devices that protect your rocker arms at the top of the engine.

If you suspect a common source of engine oil seeps and leaks over the floor in your parking garage it may come from corrosion.

Powder coating valve covers may be an affordable solution before you think on expensive replacement.

Our company have seen the interest in powder coating valve covers over the past two years and have seen many shops offering valve coating services.

The valve cover paint shops who I have seen charge outrageous prices for coating these things.

The funny thing is, people have no idea of prices and the get rip off.

They don't care if they pay plus for powder coating a valve cover when in reality the cost is much less.

Austin Powder Coating over the past few months, invested a lot into modern powder coating equipment and would like to offer cheaper valve covers powder coating services to the public to help customers save money!

How to Prepare Valve Covers for Amazing Finish

To start powder coating valve covers we first use the essential materials which can be found at your local store such as engine cleaner and brake cleaner to remove oil, grease and dust.

You may start by getting clean up oil, paint stripper, engine primer, engine paint, engine clear coat and some masking tape if you want your letters to be a different color.

The valve covers on many cars is what you first see when you look into the engine. Over time the surface may rust and they are discolored, looking worn and full of corrosion.

You may remove the valve cover taking the bolts on top of the cover and disconnect the hoses. Then lay down the valve cover. Remove any rubber parts you want to keep.

We start by de-greasing and cleaning the valve cover and being sure all the oil and grease is removed using your enginede-greaser.

This include the gaskets, O-rings and any mounting bolt plastic washers still tied to the head. Use the spray cleaner.

After you spray it down, wipe it with a clean cloth to make sure it is totally dry.

Valve Covers Preparation Process

Concerning surface preparation think that there should be no oils over the surface. If you put a greasy print on it you need to get it off.

Simplest way is to use some detergent and rinse with plenty of phosphate water mix. Once it is dry you are ready for the next step.

You must get high temperature paint including 800 grit wet sand paper. There is an abundance of aluminum shavings, remember to take care of your eye protection mask.

Then sand down any rough spots or surface rust with 120 grit sandpaper. Be sure to finish using your cleaning brush to getinto crevices.

You may do this by hand and then follow up with 320 to 400 grit paper for better finishing preparation. Follow up with a wax and grease remover or lacquer thinner.

Pay particular attention to the crevices between the cylinder head and the timing belt cover, since it is hard to get a sanding tool in there.

Mask off all the holes that aren't supposed to be painted. Hang up the valve cover by the holes so that it won’t stickafter the paint has been applied. Now you're ready to paint.

Valve Covers Finishing Process

After cleaning the valve cover, spray on the paint stripper and let it set 10 to 20 minutes.

The longer you let it sit, the softer the paint will be and the more it will bubble. However, if you leave it too long it will start to dry out and harden again.

To paint, use the high temperature paint applying even strokes over the entire valve cover keeping the spray paint gun at least 10 inches from the valve cover to apply the epoxy primer coat. Put it into the oven for 30 to 35 minutes.

Once out, apply the final top paint color you would like to use. Back to the oven again for the same time. Once out, you may decide to apply a clear coat for shining purpose.

Let the paint dry for at least 2 hours, then remove all masking tape. Next, set the oven to 350 degrees and put the valve cover in for 20 minutes to set the paint. Make sure when you take it out you don't touch the paint with the oven glove.

It might be a good idea to order new gaskets. But it may not be necessary if the previous one is in good shape.

It is now ready to set it back to your car. Reinstall it, don't forget to put the rubber spark plug seals back on and thevalve cover gasket.
